River Pacifico

by David Jordan

Hold on tight; it’s about to get very thrilling. It’s the third book in the River series, continuing from the end of River Deep.

River Pacifico is set in two timelines, the current and the past ten years.

A call for help takes River to Costa Rica, where an injured ex-Force Recon Captain is being threatened.

The North Koreans have a plan that requires control of a small town on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica. People have died, others have disappeared, and the Captain is under threat.

River must defend this wounded warrior and unravel what is going on. As actions escalate, River will attempt the rescue of three women who have been taken. Can he put an end to the incursion of the North Koreans and prevent an attack on the USA?

An extract from River Pacifico….’It was 02:00 in Costa Rica, and the Shambhala Productions compound on Calle Bejuco road in Uvita was dark. All of the employees had left some six hours earlier.
The four men, all dressed in black, moved around the compound silently. Their vehicle was parked in the nearby Balcon Ballena bed and breakfast, which had been sold a week earlier and now stood empty.
The men all carried five-gallon cans of gasoline, which they spread around the various buildings. After ten minutes, they grouped at the front gate, and their leader pulled the tab on a road flare, tossing it against the door of the main building. It caught fire immediately.
As the men slipped back up the hill to their waiting vehicle, the flames from Shambala Production’s burning buildings were already at the rooftop level.
Meanwhile, further down the hill, another fire was just starting at the restaurant “Tribu” owned by a European couple, Jonas and Carolina Hernkrantz. Jonas and Carolina were from Sweden, Carolina from the magical island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea. They were ordinary, hardworking people who had moved to Costa Rica to pursue a dream. They had built Tribu from the ground up, investing all their savings and personal effort over two years into the venture. A tough people used to hardship, this Swedish couple had refused requests to sell their restaurant. They had stood up to the ever-increasing threats from the men who wanted their property, standing together and never faltering.
That night, a gas line to the extensive stainless-steel range in the kitchen had come away from its connection. The restaurant kitchen filled with gas, gradually seeping up the stairs and into the bedrooms above, where the couple slept. Jonas was roused as the gas filled his lungs, and he started coughing. He pulled himself out of bed, coughing and retching. His immediate thoughts were for the safety of Carolina, who was unconscious. But as he moved to shake her, the gas caught on an open flame left on a counter in the kitchen. The explosion was massive and blew the restaurant apart, killing the couple in their bedroom before they could act.
‘

….. IF YOU LIKE FAST-PACED ACTION …5 out of 5 stars

“Outstanding. Thoroughly enjoyable. River Dawn is well-conceived and well-executed, with nearly non-stop action and excellent plot lines. The primary story of the main character, John River’s repeatedly heroic, usually violent, and frequently thrilling attempts to rescue kidnapped children in Thailand provides the basis for flashbacks into his past as a member of an elite Navy SEAL team. While I am generally not a fan of multiple timelines or flashbacks in novels or films, the author has made this technique work exceedingly well in River Dawn. Not only does the time shifting crucially help the reader understand the background of the lead character and how he can accomplish his heroics, but those individual vignettes are thrilling short stories in and of themselves.

Other than a masterful job in storytelling and progressing the plot, the author’s strength lies in his ability to paint a very clear picture of each of the scenes in the novel to the extent that the reader almost feels as if they are in the room, car, boat, or helicopter with the characters – like actually being in a movie or video game. But beware. Without giving away too much, if you think you have an idea where the story and individual characters are going, you may want to think again — or at least prepare to be surprised.

I understand from the book’s website that it is the first in a series of novels based on the main character. If so, great start. Movie, anyone?”

“I read your book in two days. Not the sort of genre I would normally read, however, I couldn’t put it down. Absolutely loved it. I think I may now have to purchase a set of ceramic knives. Looking forward to the next one.”

5 out of 5 stars, I am a fan. I will not comment much on the action and fights. Of course, they are top-notch and aplenty. However, I will comment on how Mr.Jordan made this book a masterpiece.

I love the main character. Such compassion is tempered by deadly skills (not the typical other way around). The supporting characters and acts of kindness are deeply touching. Red Shirt, captain, the Beetle, and Mr. Hager….. all touched the reader in great ways.

Jordan writes with an icy precision that makes you see everything going on in this action-packed book as though you are in the middle of it all. The pace of action is quick, and the element of surprise is never lost. A masterful thriller.

I love military suspense, and this one did not disappoint. The details of the many places River went were captivating! If you like a hero who is guided by his own ideals, wreaks havoc on those who harm innocents, etc., this book is for you!

It’s the second book in the series and a second fab book. Continuing the story of John River, it’s packed with adventure and jeopardy. Great writing with fantastic detail that supports visualization—once read, you feel you have been to these places and desire to go and see them again! I hope book 3 comes soon…… and an accompanying TV series!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars. It’s a stunningly good thriller. It has all the elements to make it a classic.
Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2024
While the protagonist is a supremely lethal operative, and the action scenes are terrific. River has a moral compass and a level of commitment to protecting those who need help, which elevates him from the way too usual cardboard action figures depicted in this genre. The pacing was superb, just enough detail without slowing down the story, character development was excellent, the descriptions of the various locales enthralling and there was even some humor. It’s hard to envision a more compelling thriller.
Delighted that the author is committed to a series. I am starting the second volume now and would happily pay full price.

River Dawn

By David Jordan

River Dawn is set in two timelines, the current and the past ten years.

John River is a man skilled to a unique level in the martial arts world and the military. River has been trained to rescue people, and that training has become embedded in his personality.

When a child sex trafficking ring kidnaps the daughter of a friend, then River’s mission is clear – rescue her and save the other children at all costs.

An extract from River Dawn……’ I crept slowly down the stairs, kneeling to peer underneath the floor of the ring level and into the basement; it was big. There was a large conference table with about ten men sat around it. Two large LCD TVs were on the wall, and the men were watching music videos with young girls singing and dancing. Beer and food were on the table; they seemed to be having a party. Behind the conference tables were two rows of cages, utterly full of young Chinese boys and girls in their teens; many sat on the floor, some standing and leaning on the cage walls. Beyond the cages were two large offices with windows out onto the cage areas. I could make out movement in both offices.’

A fast-paced thriller set against the backdrop of current world issues, River Dawn will carry the reader on a roller coaster ride of River’s rescue attempt of a group of children.

Exotic locations, action, military missions, thrills, and crime. River Dawn begins the evolution of John River, the Search and Rescue specialist.

River Deep

By David Jordan

Hold on to your seats and be prepared for even more action, thrills, and rescues. This is the second book in the John River series.

River Deep is set in two timelines, the current and the past ten years.

River takes a job on a cruise liner because of a voice in his head from the past, but he does not realize why this ship is a man short.

Trying to bend River to their will, a Mexican cartel abducts the daughter of a man to whom River feels a debt. They have no idea of the fury that they have unleashed. They will pay the total price of entering River’s world.

An extract from River Deep….’ He moved closer, and April Standard’s blond hair and face came into view. He stopped and flipped up the goggles so his face was visible. Switching on the storm lantern, the room became dimly lit. Placing the storm lantern on the floor, he put a hand over April’s mouth and shook her shoulder. Her eyes flew open in panic and fear, and her arms flailed at him, hitting him on the chest several times.
“April, it is River,” he said quietly.
The flailing stopped; April blinked several times and then squinted at him.
“April, it is River,” he said again.
Her body relaxed, and so he removed his left hand from her mouth; she practically jumped at him, enveloping him in her arms and burying her face on his shoulder.
“River, I knew you would come; I knew it,” she gasped.
He said nothing
and just held on to her. She started sobbing, gasping for breath, crying, and shaking; he just held her. “I knew you would come; I just felt it,” she sobbed. I don’t know why, but I was certain that you were on your way; I just needed to hold on.“

Cruise Liners, tropical destinations, action, military missions, thrills, and crime. River Deep continues the evolution of John River, the Search and Rescue specialist.

Launching Summer 2025

River Heat

By David Jordan

It’s the fourth book in the River series, continuing from the end of River Pacifico.

River Heat is set in two timelines, the current and the past ten years.

River will attempt to rescue twin boys who have been abducted and used to start a regional conflict. All the major powers have declined to help, but River and his team will attempt the impossible. He might get in, but can he ever get out?

An extract from River Heat, “Aisha jumped up just as two men came through the store entrance. They were both armed; she aimed at the one on the right and fired several times. He fell forward and over to the left. The wounded member of her security team was on his knees and firing at the second newcomer. He hit the man twice but then fell forward with a knife in his back and the female assistant standing over him.
Aisha looked at the entrance; it was clear she could make it!
She took the first step towards the entrance but paused, ‘her sons!’ She stopped and spun around. The assistant by the counter was standing by her two sons and was holding a large knife with blood dripping from it. She smiled at Aisha, and for the first time, Aisha noticed the bodies of the Manager and the other female assistant behind the counter.
Just then, two more men came through the entrance. Aisha started towards her sons; she could see their eyes wide with fright. She raised the automatic to shoot the woman with the knife but was slammed in the back by two shots that knocked her to the floor, her automatic smashed from her grip and spinning over to the feet of the grinning assistant.
‘Get up,’ she screamed at herself, ‘save them.’
But her body was not responding; she frantically scratched at the floor, trying to get to her knees, but a man gripped her hair and pulled her backward. She was dragged on her back towards the entrance.”

Launching Summer 2025.
