Each of the John River Books includes a cast, some who appear for the entire series and some for just one book. The following sections depict the characters from the various books.
John River
John River – search and rescue ‘cleaner’. Thirty years old, American, born in San Francisco, joined the Marines at sixteen, the Seals at Twenty, and the Search and Rescue team at twenty-six. Black belt in five martial arts. Specialist in close-in hand-to-hand fighting.
Silver Warbirds
Pickpocket – the search and rescue tracker, black, father runs a garage in Detroit and Pickpocket grew up fixing cars, mother dead, no siblings.
Comms – the search and rescue communications specialist of Iranian descent, born in Michigan to Persian exile parents; he speaks six different Middle Eastern languages, including Urdu, Farsi, and Pashto, with the accent of someone from eastern Afghanistan
Eagle – the search and rescue overwatch sniper, born in Montana, parents and three sisters still in Bozeman.
Guns – Warren Mitchell, born in New Mexico, the search and rescue team leader, speaks Spanish, Farsi, and Pashto, sister lives in Chama, New Mexico
Bruin – the search and rescue medic, born in Greenville, Alabama, 5 brothers, mum, and dad.
Satya – search and rescue medic with Pakistani heritage, Muslim, born in Chicago with Pakistani parents, speaks Urdu, Shina, Balti, and Wakhi.

River Dawn
Pete Meacham is the owner of the dive boat ‘Sally’. Australian, divorced from Swedish wife and mother of Sandy. Pete moved to Koh Samui ten years ago to build a dive business. Owner of the ‘Sally’ dive boat. Runs Meacham Dive in Koh Samui, Thailand.
Sandy is Pete’s eighteen-year-old daughter, who spent most of her life in Koh Samui. She is an Australian citizen but with a Swedish mother. Runs the Meacham Dive office and helps on the Sally.
Andy leads a dive team. Australian, born near Melbourne
